“My year as a placement student”

A placement with Ellis Jones provides numerous opportunities and experiences, as well as a chance to gain an insight and become part of an expanding, highly regarded Law Firm. The Firm welcomed me into their family unit and I was always made to feel like a colleague, not just a ‘placement student’.

During my placement I was lucky enough to spend time in multiple departments, completing a seat within the Marketing Department, Family Department, Personal Injury Department and Banking & Finance Litigation Department. I enjoyed every aspect of each department from the events management and marketing of the firm, to the emotive and personal cases resolved within Family and Personal Injury Departments. I also gained a valuable understanding of the diverse, commercial, fast-paced Banking & Finance Litigation Department. The Firm also provides opportunities to network and socialise which I feel is an important attribute and attractive quality.

It’s so important to gain practical experience, as during a law degree you are not taught the day to day procedures or knowledge required to work in practice. A placement with this Firm requires hard work, initiative and determination but the experience you will gain is invaluable and I am grateful for the opportunities and level of involvement I was awarded. My time with the Firm has provided me with confidence and has cemented my desire to pursue a career as a solicitor; I would highly recommend the Firm to any student who is looking for a hands on, exciting, diverse work placement.
