New Guidance on Whistleblowing

Whistleblowing is frequently discussed in the news and recently there have been concerns that several high profile employers, including the NHS, have failed to put in place the necessary safeguards to ensure that whistleblowers are protected.

The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills has this week released helpful guidance to employers on whistleblowing and which aims to combat the recent problems that have arisen. The guidance highlights the importance for employers to create an open and supportive culture at work and to encourage their employees to raise any issues they have as soon as they arise. There is also emphasis on the need to ensure that management are provided with adequate training to guarantee that employees can seek support from a range of staff.

We hope that the guidance will encourage employers to make the necessary changes to their workplace, including updating their policies and reviewing their current training programmes.

If you have any whistleblowing concerns, please contact Kate Brooks at kate.brooks@ellisjones.co.uk.
