The Incapacity Crisis – A Nation Unprepared

This week is the launch of the Solicitors for the Elderly campaign “Choice not Chance” raising awareness of the importance of Lasting Powers of Attorney for Health & Welfare (LPAs). Health & Welfare LPAs allow you to express your wishes for your end of life care and medical treatment and you can appoint your loved ones and people you trust to be your voice in the event that you lose the ability to make your own decisions regarding your care and welfare.

Every 3 minutes somebody in the UK develops dementia, yet only around 3% of people in this country have a Health & Welfare LPA in place. Solicitors for the Elderly’s latest campaign has revealed that a staggering 65% of people incorrectly believe that their next of kin can specify what they would have wanted if they are no longer able to and 73% of the public would like a family member to make medical and care decisions on their behalf.

Do your loved ones know how you would wish to be cared for in later life? Don’t leave them in the dark – start the conversation
now and if you would like to discuss how you can make a Health & Welfare LPA to cover all your future care and welfare wishes please speak to one of our experts who will guide you through the process.
