My Placement at Ellis Jones

Deciding to undertake a placement year was an easy decision for me. There is no better way to learn the practical skills needed for a successful legal career than at a young age and with effective and informative guidance. I have been lucky enough to receive such guidance during my time so far with Ellis Jones.

My Experience So Far

I am currently working in the family department. Working in such an emotive and personal area of law is a real eye opener. I have learnt so much about how the legal industry works in practice and gained skills in dealing with and managing clients. I am lucky to be trusted to help assist fee earners with clients on their sensitive and personal matters.

I believe that gaining experience is vital to your development as a student and young legal professional. Adapting the student lifestyle to working in a fast paced, professional environment is no easy task, but Ellis Jones have made the transition feel seamless. Many solicitors at the Firm have been in my exact position in the past, which I believe is a part of the reason it is so easy to ask questions and seek help as and when needed.

I would urge anyone seeking a placement to look into the culture and core values of Ellis Jones. It is easy for anybody to simply read them, but it is important to really research and identify the links between the Firm’s values and your own personal values. I believe the importance of working somewhere which fits with your own personality and values is paramount to your own success.

Being provided with invaluable networking opportunities also contributes towards your development and career progression. Ellis Jones are a very modern and innovative Firm and I have been able to attend various networking events which I have thoroughly enjoyed. I believe learning how to conduct and present yourself in different social environments goes a long way. I have been lucky enough to meet some incredible people and build strong relationships during my placement with Ellis Jones

I have nothing but gratitude for the firm for taking a chance with me and allowing me to grow, enhance my knowledge and feel like a part of something bigger. I am incredibly excited for what the future holds.
