Ellis Jones ranked among UK’s most notable law firms

Ellis Jones has been recognised again, for the 10th year running, in the annual Chambers and Partners Directory which ranks the UK’s most notable law firms and lawyers. The firm is one of only two Dorset-based practices mentioned in the 2016 edition for its expertise in family law.

The directory says Ellis Jones’ full-service family law group “excels” in advising on the financial and child aspects of separation and divorce. It also provides additional advice on nuptial agreements, pensions, assets, cohabitation and civil partnerships.

The directory names partners Deborah Leask and Sean McNally, who are joint heads of the family department, as notable practitioners.

Deborah is recommended for her expertise in complex financial disputes and pensions issues. According to a source quoted in the directory: “She is highly experienced and practical, with a good client manner.”

Sean is described as an experienced mediator and collaborative solicitor who is frequently called upon for high net worth cases. He draws notable acclaim for his work in relation to disputes involving children and particularly issues concerning international child abductions.

The 2016 edition of Chambers and Partners covers 50 cities and counties in the UK and features more than 70 specialist areas of law.

Lawyers and law firms are ranked on several factors and considerations, all of which are investigated by a team of more than 140 researchers. Individual lawyers are ranked in their practice area on the basis of their legal knowledge and experience, their ability, their effectiveness, and their client-service.

Law firm departments are ranked on the qualities of their lawyers. In addition, the researchers consider the effectiveness and capability of the department as a whole, specifically its strength and depth. Interviews are then carried out with those active in the market – mainly clients – as well as other lawyers. Recent work is also assessed.
