Business Fives Runners-Up: Ellis Jones Raise £2,200 for Charity

On Wednesday afternoon, a team of eight, under the management of David McWilliam headed over to Littledown Sports Centre to represent Ellis Jones in this year’s Business Fives‘ 5-a-side football tournament to raise money for various charities, including our chosen charity, Bowel Cancer UK.

Bowel Cancer UK

Bowel Cancer UK provide vital support and advice for those affected by bowel cancer alongside campaigning for greater awareness, early diagnosis, and access to the best treatment. If you wish to kindly donate to the cause and help those affected by bowel cancer then please donate here; Donate.

Business Fives’ 5-a-side football tournament

We were off to a brilliant start winning both our group games with some great goals from Tomas Baker, Howard Hasan, Josh Davis, Paul Kanolik, and Jasmine White. Due to finishing top of the group, we then progressed into the Champions’ League group stage where we played the winners of the other two groups.

In our first game we played a 1-1 draw with a goal from Luke Foot, but after some encouragement from our manager David, we came back stronger. Another great finish by Tom led us to a 1-0 victory in the following game.

This put us through to the semi-final, which was a tough game, but we came out on top with a 1-0 win. We were through to the final and raring to go. We faced off against ASMPT SMT UK for the title. After a tough game and some close chances, including one from Paul hitting both the post and the bar, we did unfortunately lose 1-0. It was a great performance from the whole Ellis Jones team right to the very end and has put us through to the Business Fives National Finals in Birmingham!

We would not have made it so far without Bradley Moon’s phenomenal performance in goal and some excellent defending from Alex Chance, Josh, and Luke.

The tournament was followed by pizza and a Q&A with Steve Claridge, former AFC Bournemouth player and former Portsmouth manager. It was a great opportunity to hear all about the local teams that Steve has played for and managed.

Celebrating Success

A brilliant afternoon with some deserved silverware including Bradley winning the golden glove after conceding only 3 goals throughout the tournament, Jasmine winning best female player, and a second-place trophy and medals all round for the team!

Most importantly, an amazing £2,200 raised for charity throughout the day.

Some funny highlights from the day can be found on Business Fives’ X  and LinkedIn.
