Charities Seminar: Law updates & Protecting Legacies

On 17th May we hosted a seminar at The Green House Hotel for a range of representatives from local and national charities and accountants.

Representatives from the RNLI, Julia’s House Hospice, BSO & many others joined us to listen to guest speaker William Hopkin, Barrister at Magdalen Chambers, present on the latest updates on charity law and governance.

Lauren Day and Victoria Riddleston who work in our dispute resolution department presented on contentious trusts and probate and the issues which might face charities when legacies are contested.

Dougie Scarfe, CEO of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra said “as the Chief Executive of a major arts charity I think it is very important for me to keep abreast of the latest changes in legislation. I would recommend this event to other charities and certainly myself and my colleagues will come in the future”

This was the first seminar of a series of seminars discussing legal topics surrounding charities, with the ever-changing legal landscape it is more important than ever that charities stay aware of the challenges they may face.

Thank you to all those that joined us for this seminar. If you would be interested in attending any of our future Charity Seminars please email millie.chittock@ellisjones.co.uk.
