Ellis Jones’ 2024 Commercial Negotiation Competition
After the success of last year, Ellis Jones recently held the second Commercial Negotiation Competition with Bournemouth University
Prior to the competition, Dayna Rodrigues and Conor Maher ran an informative seminar on the tactics and approaches to negotiation. Within this session, the students taking part were taught the different strategies they could use within the commercial negotiation. The first round of the competition provided teams of two students with the ability to negotiate a fictional breach of contract scenario.
The final was then held at our Bournemouth office where the participants were tasked with negotiating a disputed will. The negotiation was judged by Nigel Smith and Ian Butterworth, with assistance from Dayna Rodrigues and Conor Maher. Both teams were able to put forward their fictional clients’ arguments citing case law and legislation and by the end, reached a satisfactory conclusion.
The judges were extremely impressed with the quality of the student’s negotiation skills. All participants received a framed certificate and the overall winner of the competition, Tamzin Bouzad, was awarded with a two-week vacation scheme at Ellis Jones.
