How Ellis Jones Puts People First
At Ellis Jones one of our key values is to put people first and it’s not just something we say, it’s something we do in lots of ways. From the way we put the needs of our clients first and go above and beyond to achieve their desired outcomes, to the way we treat each other as colleagues and how we work with local organisations and charities via fundraisers, partnerships and sponsorships.

Putting our clients first
Below are some examples from our experts of ways they have put people first during their time at Ellis Jones:
Jane Wardle – Personal Assistant
“At Ellis Jones Solicitors, we believe that caring for our clients goes beyond managing their legal affairs—it’s about making them feel valued, acknowledged, and remembered.
This Christmas, we made sure that those in our care, particularly our elderly clients living alone or in care homes, felt the warmth of the season with a simple yet meaningful gesture: a personally chosen and beautifully wrapped gift.
Understanding that many of our clients have dementia or disabilities, we took the time to select presents they would truly appreciate—edible treats and bright, cuddly Christmas gnomes that brought smiles to their faces. I spent evenings and weekends, beyond work hours, buying, wrapping, and delivering over 25 gifts across a 100-mile radius. For many of these clients, Christmas would have otherwise been just another day, with no family or friends to mark the occasion. But this small act of kindness made a world of difference.
The joy and gratitude I witnessed during these visits were heart-warming. Some clients were so surprised that they asked if the gift was really for them, their eyes lighting up as they unwrapped their presents. In care homes, staff shared how rare it is for a law firm to show such thoughtfulness, and they were thrilled to hand out the gifts on Christmas morning. Care agencies also expressed their admiration, acknowledging how special it was for our firm to go the extra mile.
When possible, I stayed for a short chat, listening to incredible stories of lives well-lived. It reminded me that beyond legal documents and responsibilities, our work is about making people feel seen, heard, and valued. This is what sets us apart—we don’t just manage affairs; we care. And that’s what truly makes a difference.”
David McWilliam – Partner, Solicitor and Head of Personal Injury & Sports Law
“I acted for a cyclist who was hit from behind by a drunk driver. He sustained multiple injuries including a bleed on the brain. I arranged for private physiotherapy treatment at no cost to him to treat his physical injuries and speed up his recovery. I also arranged interim payments to cover the cost of psychological treatment as he said he would never get back on a bike again. After intensive therapy, he did return to cycling. I secured a damages award of £85,000. I think he was just as happy about being able to return to cycling and his running.”
Georgina Emerson – Senior Associate Solicitor
“I acted for a father who instructed me in desperation on a Friday afternoon, after finding out his children were about to be taken by their mother and relocated on a permanent basis to America, without his consent. I dropped everything and issued an out-of-hours application to the High Court on a Friday evening to ensure that an Order was obtained that same day to stop the children from travelling and their passports were seized over the weekend. The matter was resolved in Court within 7 months, and we were successful in defending the mother’s application to relocate. The father now enjoys shared care of the children which enables him to maintain his close relationship with them.”
This is just a snippet of the ways our experts and support staff go the extra mile for our clients. Our staff also strive to help one another:

How we support our local community
We also support people in the local community with annual events like Armed Forces Day, when we have hosted various fundraising activities, like a firm wide bake sale and rounders competition, in support of the Army Benevolent Fund in the run up to Armed Forces Day each year. The Army Benevolent Fund is the national charity of the British Army. Since 1944, it has provided a lifetime of support to soldiers, veterans, and their immediate families when they are in need.
Another event we annually host is Royal Ascot Day, where staff and guests have previously raised £1,228 for The BOWRA Foundation, as well as other charities due to half of all the bets for each race being donated to a charity of choice each year.
These are just some of the ways we put people first at our Firm and we are always striving to do more. If you’d like to find out more about our culture and what it’s like to work at Ellis Jones, visit our About Us and Career pages.
