Lorraine Capon wins the Ellis Jones Wish
The Ellis Jones Wish is a fantastic opportunity we provide our staff that could win them up to £250 towards an unforgettable experience of their choice. Every quarter staff have the chance to submit their wish in a raffle, which could include a spa break, a trip to the West End or driving a sports car.
Our Telephonist, Lorraine Capon, was our lucky Wish winner at our Summer Social in 2022 and used it on a hot air balloon ride over the Dorset countryside.
I was so thrilled the day I won the Ellis Jones Wish. It gave me the opportunity to do something I’ve always wanted to do, take a hot air balloon flight. My mother thought I was mad because I’ve always been frightened of heights. But with my husband Paul’s encouragement, after waiting, what seemed ages, we finally took our flight. Unfortunately, many earlier bookings had been cancelled by the flight operators due to poor weather conditions.
On the day, thankfully the weather turned out perfect. A beautiful blue sky, lovely sunshine and very light winds. We had to get up early in the morning & drive over towards Sherborne. We were collected from the meeting point & taken with other passengers over to a large field. I felt a bit nervous, but our pilot Steve soon put us at our ease. The balloon was on the back of a trailer, which eventually got rolled out, we all helped with this. As soon as the balloon was up, we all got in the basket & very gently the balloon lifted off the ground. It was a fantastic experience as we floated across the Dorset countryside. Everything seemed so peaceful & quiet up there. Even the landing afterwards went well. After the flight, Steve presented us with our Certificates & a glass of bubbly.
I’m so glad we did it & my fear of heights didn’t put me off. Thank you so much for making my wish come true.
