My experience so far
I am currently based between the Business Services and Employment departments, with the versatile nature of working across two departments allowing me to learn and develop as a person and professional. In Business Services I predominantly assist in transactional work having been involved in the sale and purchase of various businesses and all the moving pieces that accompany such a process. An extremely rewarding moment presented itself when a client left a Google Review upon the sale of his business, a transaction that I found myself engrossed in since my very first month with the firm:

My Employment work primarily consists of taking new enquiries, whilst setting up and assisting with the management of files. Further opportunities have arisen to attend an Employment Tribunal and – in both departments – attend meetings with clients, beneficial to the development of interpersonal skills and allowing me to feel integrated into the firm’s culture. The nature of my work continues to challenge me, is fundamental to my professional growth and makes the job extremely fulfilling, further incentivising me to strive towards a career in law. The legal industry is renowned for having a high ceiling and that applies to your placement year too, you will get out what you are willing to put in.
In applying for a placement, do remember – although important – that grades do not carry all of the weight and that law is a heavily people-based industry.
