Supporting Road Safety Week
This week we are supporting BRAKE in their annual road safety week by helping to spread awareness. BRAKE is a road safety charity that works to prevent road death and injury, to make streets and communities safer and to support victims of road
crashes.
Cyclists and motorcyclists are amongst the most vulnerable road users in the UK, with more than 100 riders injured every day in crashes that could be prevented. Here at Ellis Jones, our Personal Injury department advises thousands of cyclists and motorcyclists every year.
In the last few weeks, we have settled claims in the sum of £100,000 for 3 cyclists that were injured. The damages go towards their injuries, rehabilitation and treatment, loss of earnings, special equipment and replacement bikes.
We have also seen an increase in the number of enquiries now that the clocks have gone back and the darker evenings have drawn in.
BRAKE’s campaign is focussing on :-
- Drivers being bike smart by looking out for those on 2 wheels, driving safely and slowly and giving riders plenty of room.
- Cyclists and motorcyclists being bike smart through safe riding behaviours and appropriate training and equipment.
- Policy makers being bike smart by implementing a safe systems approach, mandating lifesaving technology and prioritising cycle friendly infrastructures.
