The Legal 500 2022 results are revealed!
The Legal 500 2022 results have been released and we are extremely proud to announce that a number of our teams and individuals have once again been recognised for their outstanding quality of work and efforts. A huge congratulations to all departments and individuals who have been recognised in this year’s results. The Legal 500 is a highly prestigious legal directory which reflects how the reputations of legal firms and individuals are perceived in the marketplace.
We delighted to say that the following teams from Ellis Jones have all been recognised for their excellence: Dispute Resolution, Banking & Finance Litigation, Commercial Property, Family, Contentious Trusts & Probate, Wills, Trusts & Probate, Employment and Business Services for the following;
Commercial Litigation – including the Dispute Resolution, and Banking and Finance teams, are ranked in Tier 1, and have been recognised to be “one of the best litigation firms in Dorset, Hampshire and the south-west”, as well as offering “an excellent breadth of subject-matter coverage” and “wonderful client engagement”.
Lauren Day has been recognised as a Leading Individual for the third year running; additionally, William Fox Bregman was quoted to bring “the full benefit of his wealth of commercial litigation experience” to the department. It was also mentioned that Ellis Jones has niche experience in bringing claims against betting companies and included Paul Kanolik as a key lawyer. Caroline Palacio was also praised for her ‘unflappable‘ approach and to have “a wealth of experience in insolvency matters‘ and has “developed an impressive following with insolvency practitioners”. Maria Evans was also recognised for being “comprehensive, empathetic and knowledgeable”.
The Family team secured Tier 2 this year and praised for offering “a personable approach” as well as “cutting right to the heart of the issues in a no-nonsense approach”. “A strong and experienced leadership team of Deborah Leask and Sean McNally.” Sean McNally was described as “extremely knowledgeable with a robust yet pragmatic approach to cases.”
Katie Taft was recognised for her particular specialism in working with international children’s relocations. Ian Butterworth achievement of becoming a deputy district judge in May 2020 was also recognised.
Our Employment team was placed in Tier 2 for offers a solid blend of HR and traditional employment law services and is particularly regarded for its work involving education and charity employers, as well as LGBT clients in discrimination cases. The department was praised for being “very helpful, extremely knowledgeable and immediately know you can trust them with their ethics & morals in right place”.
Kate Brooks heads up the team from Bournemouth, which also often works alongside the firm’s corporate team and is described as “absolutely fantastic at providing support both for businesses requiring support and guidance whilst being realistic how the true business world works and also, helping personal clients”.
Contentious Trusts and Probate
Our Contentious Trusts and Probate team secured Tier 2 and their range of expertise was highlighted, this includes Inheritance Act claims, disputes concerning the validity of wills, trust disputes and proprietary estoppel claims.
Victoria Riddleston was recognised as a key lawyer within the service area and “always willing to discuss any points I made and treated me with respect.” The department was described as being “Approachable. Friendly but professional.” and “the quality and expertise of the team at Ellis Jones second to none”.
Wills, Trusts and Probate claimed Tier 3 and it was highlighted that the department was highly regarded for its trust practice in particular, while also maintaining a strong reputation for will writing, estate planning and estate administration in the Bournemouth area. The department were also recognised for their “excellent response times and expertise to handle a diverse range of needs to fit the requirements of high-net-worth individuals”.
Practice head Carla Brown was recognised for specialising in advising a growing client base of high-net-worth individuals on estate and tax planning. Chris Pemberton was noted for his work with farmers and landed estates.
Work highlights included providing holistic local legal services for a wealthy couple, their children and their international companies, advising on cross-border will planning for a couple with complicated domicile, residency and family issues, and finally, advising on estate administration involving complex farm site, sale to a developer, associated trusts and estate and tax planning for a family.
Our Business Services team secured Tier 3 in this year’s rankings and was quoted to be “a well-established firm with a good breadth of knowledge and service offering.”
Neil Cook was recognised for his substantial experience in care home transactions both locally and nationally and praised for understanding of commercial issues. Abi Sinden was noted for building a strong retail and e-commerce practice as well as Hugh Craig who was recognised for his work on equity investments and described as a ‘veteran transactional lawyer’.
Work highlights include Advising Wessex Retail on the purchase of 200 convenience stores over the next five years.
Our Commercial Property team were placed in Tier 3 and recognised for their expert ability to offer specialist advice in residential and commercial redevelopment, as well as property acquisitions and management. The department was praised for being “very responsive and ready to support their clients with professionalism, energy and focus”.
Tim Sharpley was acknowledged for his expertise in restrictive covenants within the department. Matthew Clake was recognised for approaching his volume of work with “humour, professionalism and innovation”
